Earning the Fellow in Human Experience designation has been an incredibly fulfilling and transformative experience in my professional journey. It has provided me with invaluable knowledge and skills that have not only deepened my understanding of patient experience but also helped me play a significant role in driving results at WVU Medicine. The Body of Knowledge Certificate in Patient Experience Leadership helped me sharpen my approach, while the Fellow in Human Experience project empowered me to implement impactful changes within our organization. The fellowship has been a unique opportunity to engage with a community of like-minded professionals who share a passion for improving healthcare, and the insights gained from this network have been incredibly valuable. The collaborative nature of the program allowed me to exchange ideas, challenge my thinking, and grow in ways that would not have been possible otherwise. The lessons I’ve learned and the tools I’ve gained have been crucial in shaping how we approach patient experience at WVU Medicine. We've seen a shift in leadership's perspective, with a deeper recognition of how essential patient experience is in the success of our hospital. This designation has not only strengthened my leadership abilities but also reinforced my dedication to improving the healthcare experience for both patients and staff, and I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to contribute to that transformation.
Program Director, Associate Professor, Bachelor of Science Healthcare Disparities, Diversity, and Advocacy, School of Health Professions, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center
Becoming a Fellow of Human Experience (FHX) was an important step in my journey to advocate for patients and their families in meaningful ways. I am passionate about enhancing the patient experience, and my certification as a Patient Experience Professional (CPXP) and completion of the Certificate of Patient Experience Leadership have provided me with invaluable insights into how we can better serve patients and families as they navigate the complexities of healthcare.
Through my work as a Program Director in a large healthcare institution, I see firsthand the increasing demand for healthcare professionals who are equipped to address diverse health issues and disparities in care. I believe that by earning the FHX, I expanded my commitment to leadership, equity, and inclusion. These foster teaching and mentoring future healthcare providers, empowering them to become effective advocates for patients while allowing me to develop innovative graduate programs like a proposed Master of Science in Health Equity Leadership.
Healthcare is not just about medical procedures and drug regimens—it’s about the quality of human connection. The FHX fosters my ability to listen, communicate, and advocate for those who need it. By focusing on the whole person, healthcare providers make a difference in the lives of patients, in the quality of care they receive, and in the policies that shape the healthcare system.
Becoming a Fellow of Human Experience was an opportunity to continue growing as a healthcare provider, educator, and leader, and I look forward to contributing to the expanding field of patient-centered care.
