Over 1500 individuals currently maintain the designation of CPXP in 17 countries.

Certified Patient Experience Professional (CPXP)

What is a Certified Patient Experience Professional (CPXP)?

A certified patient experience professional (CPXP) is a person who influences the systems, processes and behaviors that cultivate positive experiences across the continuum of care.

What is the passing score for the CPXP examination? 

The CPXP exam is scaled and you need a 500 out of 800 possible points to earn your designation.  There is not a raw score number available for the exam as there are multiple forms of the exam and they are all statistically scaled to ensure that the level of difficulty is the same on each form.  You are not penalized for wrong answers, but receive points for right answers, therefore it is in the candidates best interest to answer all 150 questions. 

What is the CPXP Handbook?

The CPXP Handbook provides a comprehensive overview of the CPXP Examination process from application, to examination information, examination results, to recertification requirements. It is strongly suggested that ALL applicants for the CPXP exam review the handbook fully before starting the application process. 

Are there Policies and Procedures required to apply for the CPXP examination?

A standard set of policies and procedures must be reviewed and agreed to during the application process. These are included in the CPXP application form and are also outlined in the CPXP handbook

When is the CPXP exam offered?

There are two testing windows for the CPXP Exam, April 1-30 and October 1-31. Examinees may take the test during the entire month window dependent on availability in testing centers offering the exam. The application deadline for each window is:

  • April Testing Window Deadline: February 21
  • October Testing Window Deadline: August 21

Where is the CPXP exam offered?

The CPXP examination is conducted at secure testing centers operated by our testing partner, Meazure Learning or through Live Online Proctoring (LOP). Meazure Learning offers over 1,300 test center locations in more than 700 cities in 115 countries. See the full list of testing locations.

How can I apply?

It is important to review the CPXP Handbook in its entirety before you begin the application process. Prior to starting the application process you must register as a new user on our site. All applications undergo a full review process and will receive determination on approval within 30 days of application. Completing an application does not guarantee you will be approved to take the examination. You can start the application process here

How can I recertify to maintain my CPXP designation?

CPXP Certification is valid for three years from the most recent date of passing the examination or renewal.

  • April CPXP recipients must renew by April 30th, three years from examination window. (e.g., April 2020 recipients must renew by April 30, 2023)
  • October CPXP recipients must renew by October 30th, three years from examination window. (e.g., October 2020 recipients must renew by October 31, 2023)

To re-certify as a CPXP, professionals must complete 30 PXEs, which could include up to 10 hours of relevant CEs such as related CNE or CME approved courses, in a three-year period from most recent date of certification. If less than 30 PXEs are completed, reexamination will be required. Standard PXE qualifying activities are suggested and PXE qualifying programs and events can be found in the event calendar and on the PXE approved programs page. How can I get a digital badge to display my credentials?

We are excited to offer Digital Badging.  Once you obtain your CPXP or CAVS certification, you will now be able to promote your accomplishment through social media or publish to the web via Credly.

A Certified Administrator of Volunteer Services (CAVS) is a formal leader who guides volunteer infrastructure and processes in a healthcare organization to ensure the best in volunteer support across healthcare systems and organizations.
