CAVS Exam Application

Apply to Become a CAVS

It is important to review the CAVS Handbook in its entirety before starting the application process. Before beginning, candidates must ensure they have an account at the Credentialing Center. To create a new account, candidates must register as a new user from the Credentialing Center site.

All applications undergo a thorough review, with approval decisions made within 30 days of submission. Submitting an application does not guarantee approval to sit for the examination.

Testing Windows

The CAVS exam is offered during two testing windows each year: January 1 - 31 and July 1 - 31. Examinees may take the exam during the entire month window subject to availability in testing centers and online proctors offering the exam.

The application deadline for each window is:

  • January Testing Window:  November 21
  • July Testing Window:  May 21

CAVS Recertification

Maintain Your CAVS Designation

CAVS Certification is valid for three years from passing the examination or completing the most recent renewal.

  • January CAVS recipients must renew by January 30, three years from examination window. (e.g., January 2021 recipients must renew by January 30, 2024)
  • July CAVS recipients must renew by July 30, three years from examination window. (e.g., July 2021 recipients must renew by July 30, 2024)

To re-certify a CAVS designation, professionals must complete 30 CEs, which include 10 hours of PXE credits, over a three-year period from the most recent certification. If fewer than 30 credits are completed, re-examination will be required. To claim PXE credits or add credits to your credentialing center transcripts, follow these steps.

Standard PXE qualifying activities are suggested, and PXE qualifying programs and events can be found in the event calendar and on the PXE approved programs page.

During our transition, please click here to update or manage your transcript for renewal.
