Springfield Healthy Homes Asthma Program (SHHAP)

The Springfield Healthy Homes Asthma Program (SHHAP) implements an intervention that offers both in-home asthma education and home remediation to local families struggling with the impacts of asthma. The in-home asthma education provides the family an opportunity to engage with a Community Health Worker in areas such as understanding the differences in asthma medications and their proper use, maintenance of asthma related equipment, and identifying behaviors that can cause asthma exacerbations. This is partnered with a home assessment completed by a trained Healthy Homes Assessor that identifies known asthma triggers in the home (such as mold, mildew, and pests) followed by repairs as needed. Ms. Torres benefited from SHHAP and has become an advocate for the program among her family, friends, and neighbors.
