Voices of Patients and Families: Partners in Improving Patient Experience

This paper offers meaningful insights on patient experience, drawn from conversations with 18 courageous patient family partners—including healthcare practitioners, caregivers, and dedicated patient advocates. As part of the Voices series, it emphasizes the critical importance of truly listening in the moment and responding thoughtfully to what is shared or invited.
These personal stories and reflections highlight how compassionate listening and intentional partnership can uncover genuine patient and family perceptions, helping to shape care that is more responsive, respectful, and human-centered. By taking the time to listen with empathy and build trust-based relationships, healthcare providers can create environments where patients and families feel heard, valued, and supported—ultimately leading to a more positive and impactful healthcare experience for all involved.
