Legacy, Love, and Life's Calling

January 2025

Meet Brittany Lax, one of the newest members of The Beryl Institute team. Inspired by her mother’s legacy of kindness and compassion, Brittany reflects a deep sense of gratitude for family and a commitment to carrying forward values learned early in life while embracing hobbies and relationships that bring joy and balance.

Outside her role as Manager of Research and Managing Editor of PXJ, Brittany Lax finds meaning and purpose on and off the tennis court.

What led you to work in this field?

From the time I could walk, I used to follow my mother around the orthopedic office she managed. We would often go on Saturdays so she could catch up on her work, and I would roam the halls, pretending to see my own patients. From those precious moments onward, I felt a calling toward healthcare.

Several years later, my mother sadly passed away. At such a young age, I didn’t yet understand the ripples her kindness and compassion had created in our little community. So much so, the funeral home requested we extend the visiting hours to accommodate the crowds who would eventually come to pay their respects.

I carry the values she instilled both in my work and everyday life, and I feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude for having had such a wonderful role model. My mother was a pioneer in patient experience, and I hope to honor her legacy by keeping her selfless and loving spirit alive.

What is your favorite thing to do on the weekends?

Family and competitive tennis take up a vast majority of my spare time. Having played tennis at a competitive level since childhood, I am still a dedicated student of the game. From competing in various leagues to watching professionals play, tennis has always had a special place in my heart.

I also cherish my “family walks” with my boyfriend Shawn and our sweet pup Pawblo.  After chasing all the squirrels and bunnies in the neighborhood, Pawblo loves getting his fair share of treats – pup cups, pupiscles, and sometimes both – from the neighborhood mom-and-pop coffee shops. Nothing makes my heart fuller than seeing our sweet boy living his best life. Selfishly, I also enjoy the chance to get outside!

My siblings and stepmother also have a very special place in my heart, and while we may live on separate coasts, our love for each other extends well beyond state lines.

About the Spotlight Series:

You know our faces. You know our names and roles. But do you know about our passions outside of The Beryl Institute? Probably not, so we'd like to change that.

Welcome to The Spotlight Series, a monthly series highlighting the team members of The Beryl Institute. Each month, one member of our team will share interesting facts about their life outside the Institute. It is said The Beryl Institute is like "family," and we aim to expand on this sentiment through greater insight into the human beings behind our Institute titles. We hope you enjoy connecting with us in this way. May the power of connection bring us closer together as a community.
