Tomboy at Heart, Sports Mom by Choice

Good thing I grew up a tomboy—because life in a house ruled by sports suits me perfectly!  

For our first wedding anniversary, my husband, Travis, Googled “Soccer in Nashville,” hoping to find a game so he could gift me tickets—the traditional paper anniversary present. There weren’t any games that weekend, but there was a chance to buy into a brand-new soccer team forming in town, what would become Nashville Soccer Club. We jumped in as founding members, and over ten years later, we still have our season tickets! 

Then came our son, Dylan, who keeps us on our toes with select soccer, traveling all over for games. Honestly, soccer now fills nearly twelve months of our year! 

But I’ve carved out a little escape for myself: books. I sneak them into our travel time, which inspired me to start setting yearly reading goals. This year I planned for 25 books, then aimed for 40 by August—so next year, I’ll definitely need a bigger goal. Airports and car rides are the perfect reading spots when we have a rare free weekend. 

And when we do travel, we try to explore new cities, check out educational sites, and—of course—catch a baseball game. The past three summers, Travis and Dylan have cheered for the LA Dodgers in Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Denver. Who knows where we’ll go next? 

Life is busy, loud, and full of soccer balls, baseballs, and books—but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
