Almost a year ago we announced that Patient Experience Conference 2020 would not be held as an in-person gathering due to concerns about the rapid spread of the coronavirus. Reinforcing the value and need for connection and learning, we instead reformatted the event as a multi-week, virtual learning experience.
Over 500 individuals participated in the virtual offering that included access to 53 live and recorded events which were originally part of the PX2020 breakout session line-up. At the time, it was the best solution to honor the contributions of the community and support the new reality brought on by the pandemic.
However, as it became clear that the coronavirus would also deter our plans for an in-person gathering in 2021, we seized an opportunity to better meet the needs and desires of the community and designed an event that is sure to be like no other virtual experience. Combining learning opportunities with social gatherings, motivational keynotes and a virtual exhibit hall, ELEVATE PX (our re-branded Patient Experience Conference) will provide four days of connections to support and re-energize our community of experience champions and will take place during Patient Experience Week!
So, what can you expect?
- The global patient experience event. Our community includes individuals and organizations from over 80 countries around the world. When we meet in-person, many attendees fly across oceans to join us, but time zones can be an even bigger challenge virtually. That’s why ELEVATE PX will offer all keynote and breakout sessions in two distinct time blocks, making it just as convenient for our members in Asia or Australia to participate as it is for those in North or South America. You’ll select A or B session times when you register or overlap session times to design the best schedule for you.
- Motivational keynote presentations that can be shared throughout your organization. ELEVATE PX features nine keynotes representing inspiring patient, family and healthcare leadership perspectives from across the globe. While individual registration includes these sessions, organizations can also access a keynote package with the ability to stream all nine keynote sessions from up to five access points across your entire organization (what a great way to celebrate PX Week!) or include in your professional development offerings. Keynote recordings can be accessed for 30 days, but by joining live, participants can also access special meet-and-greet video sessions with presenters.
- 60+ Breakout and Poster Sessions w/ Live Chat. Featuring your experience peers from around the world, the ELEVATE PX breakout and poster sessions share ideas and proven practices to help shape and guide your experience efforts. Topics will include what we learned through the pandemic as well as important current issues, such as workplace safety, healthcare disparities, systemic racism and supporting staff. To help prevent technology issues, all sessions will be pre-recorded with presenters available during the session for a live chat engagement. And there is no need to stress about which concurrent session you’ll attend live since individual registration includes access to all breakout session recordings and the full poster session gallery.
- Social Connections and Networking. Past participants have referred to our annual conference as a “family reunion” for experience champions, and we know that connection is such an important part of the event. At ELEVATE PX, you’ll see designated times for PX Chats and Community Connections. During these breaks, you’ll be encouraged to join various rooms for video connection with peers in similar roles or with similar areas of interests. In addition, each of our special interest communities will have designated times for discussions and/or social gatherings.
- Virtual Exhibit Hall and Appointments. We know our community members are eager to discover resources available to assist in their organization’s journey to improve experiences for patients, their families and caregivers. Traditionally, in-person events provided a great opportunity to explore an array of experienced-focused solutions, and ELEVATE PX will offer a similar opportunity, just in a virtual way. Participants will have the ability to roam an online exhibit hall and make one-to-one connections with PX Marketplace exhibitors through virtual booths and appointments.
- Virtual Hospital Tours – At past in-person conferences, the local hospital tours were one of the first events to fill up, as our community loves to visit with and learn from peer organizations. However, this year our virtual tours offer two benefits: 1) there are no limits to how many people can join and 2) we are able to feature healthcare organizations from around the globe.
We know nothing replaces the opportunity to physically be together as peers committed to building the experience movement. We hope by 2022 we’ll be able to do just that (we plan to meet in Indianapolis, March 28-30, 2022). But we also know the past 12 months have been challenging – both emotionally and physically – with our professional and personal lives. It sometimes feels we are struggling to keep going, so what better time to reconnect with your patient experience friends and family for learning, inspiration and maybe even a much-needed virtual group hug?
